We also offer our patients top-quality surgical investigations if necessary. We have a team of highly trained laparoscopic surgeons in Cyprus with vast experience in the field who routinely practice advanced laparoscopic surgery.

Laparoscopy is a type of minimally invasive surgery that is used to diagnose and treat many different conditions. It involves a thin, lighted instrument (called a laparoscope) which is inserted through a small incision in the abdomen to allow the surgeon to view the pelvic and uterus (womb) area on a monitor.

How Common Is Laparoscopic Surgery?

Laparoscopic surgery is now the preferred way of performing many standard operations including major procedures such as hysterectomy and myomectomy. Our anaesthetists are experienced in dealing with such surgery cases and are fully competent to deal with any rarely arising anaesthetic complications.

We offer several different types of laparoscopic surgery for women, including:

  • Diagnostic laparoscopy and hysteroscopy (a procedure to examine the inside of the uterus) for the investigation of infertility or pelvic pain
  • Laparoscopic treatment for endometriosis to remove ovarian endometriomas
  • Laparoscopic removal of ovarian cysts with minimal damage to the ovary
  • Ovarian drilling-treatment for polycystic ovaries, laparoscopic removal / repair of damaged tubes and treatment of ectopic pregnancy
  • Operations inside the uterus – division of septum, adhesions for fertility optimisation
  • Removal of polyps inside the uterus using superfine instruments
  • Laparoscopic hysterectomy, removal of fibroids/ovaries

The Benefits Include:

  • A reduction of adhesions (scar tissue) inside the abdomen
  • Minimal scars on the skin, usually only 5mm in size.
  • Much shorter hospital stays (in most cases the need to stay is just for a few hours)
  • In fertility cases, this laparoscopic surgery compared to open surgery is much more beneficial
  • Faster return to normal activities.

Equipment

We are equipped with the latest microtechnology for laparoscopic instruments allowing the finest movements to be performed with extreme accuracy, stability and safety. The camera systems used are of a high-definition digital technology, offering us a wide angle and excellent quality view of the abdominal cavity and the operating field.
